Automated Biomass Systems

Project Title: High Torque Integrated Woodchipper

Project Summary: Automated Biomass Systems (ABS) is a firewood processing systems manufacturer, selling products under the Timberwolf brand. In collaboration with ABS, this team was tasked with designing a woodchipper that could be integrated with ABS’s TW-2 log splitter. The goal was to develop a cost-effective and efficient woodchipper that leverages the existing hydraulic system to power the machine. After finding this solution to be non-economically feasible, the team decided to move forward with a gasoline engine driven system, utilizing the engine type on the TW-2. Through mechanical design
analysis, structural testing, and system optimization, the team has worked to ensure compatibility and performance. The final design will enhance ABS’s product line and provide an option that optimizes
resource utilization for consumer wood processing operations.
