Project Summary: TreadBed is a patient transfer device that is retrofitted to go on top of emergency transfer stretchers. This consists of a cushioned conveyor belt that is extended from the stretcher to the hospital bed, where the patient will then be conveyed off the belt while remaining in place in the desired position on the bed.
Journey: After coming up with the idea for a patient transporter that will move a patient laterally from stretcher to hospital bed, the team sent a survey to local hospitals to gather data they could incorporate into their design. They also visited a nearby firehouse and met with a team of EMTs to get feedback on their design. With all of this in hand, they worked in the ECS machine shop to create a working prototype.
