Soldynex

Project Title: Motorized Heliostat Array

Project Summary: Soldynex tasked this team with developing a proof-of-concept heliostat mirror system to maximize solar energy capture through dynamic sun tracking and reflection. Unlike fixed-position panels, heliostats reflect sunlight onto a stationary receiver, enabling more efficient energy concentration. The primary objective of this project was to address the mechanical, environmental, and control challenges involved in creating a reliable and scalable heliostat array. Using pre-purchased components, the team built a small-scale prototype to demonstrate core functionality while minimizing costs. The resulting system serves as a scaled model of a future, full-scale solution, validating key design elements such as motion control, alignment accuracy, and energy efficiency. Though not optimized for large-scale deployment, this prototype provides critical insights into component selection, system integration, and overall feasibility. The successful demonstration of this project will help guide Soldynex’s future efforts to develop a modular, cost-effective heliostat system, with the potential to lead to a fully scalable and manufacturable product.
